Questions & Answers
It depends on the make and model of your car. Some cars require the keys to be in the ignition and turned to "On" or "Acc" for the power point (cigarette lighter) to provide power to the USB charger. Other cars may continue to supply power to the cigarette lighter even if the engine is turned off. To be sure, turn your vehicle off and see if your phone or tablet continues to charge. Important: if your vehicle does supply power to the cigarette lighter when the engine is turned off, do not leave your device charging for an extended period of time to avoid draining your battery.

In practical terms, yes. Older cars have cigarette lighter sockets that can power your electronics. More modern cars have 12V DC Auxiliary Power Outlets that power electronics but should NOT be used with a cigarette lighter. You can use an accessory plug with either an old or new outlet.
