How can I tell if my surge protector is still working?

It’s a surge protector’s job to stop a voltage fluctuation or lightning strike from damaging the sensitive electronic equipment connected to it but it does so by sacrificing itself. Once a power surge has been blocked, your surge protector may no longer provide protection. Many of our surge protectors include an LED “protection” indicator that indicates that surge suppression are intact and providing protection against surges.

Can Surge Protectors be plugged into a UPS?

Please do not plug a surge protector into a UPS. This may void the UPS warranty. Tripp Lite UPS products have surge suppression. For additional surge protection, plug a Tripp Lite surge protector into a wall outlet and plug the UPS into the surge protector. Please remember that the equipment you want to run during a power loss must be plugged into only the battery side of the UPS. For additional outlets, plug a Tripp Lite power strip into the UPS. Do not overload the UPS.

What Does It Mean When My Audio/Video Surge Protector Alarm Is Sounding?

Some Tripp Lite Audio/Video surge protectors are equipped with an audible alarm. This feature immediately alerts you to damaged internal protection circuitry. If the surge protector is the source of the alarm, your unit requires replacement. There are a few reasons why the audible alarm will sound: 1. A power surge occurred that damaged the unit's internal components. 2. In the event that the surge protector has been in service for a number of years, the internal protection components of the unit may have expired. 3. The unit may be faulty.

What Should I Do If My Attached Load Experienced Surge Damage While Connected To A Surge Protector?

In the event that a power surge has occurred, and one or more devices connected to a Tripp Lite surge protector have been damaged, you may be eligible to file a claim under our Ultimate Lifetime Insurance program. Why Is My Surge Protector Making An Abnormal Sound?

Almost all Tripp Lite surge protectors are designed to operate silently. If the unit is the source of any type of sound, such as a humming, crackling, or popping noise, the surge protector requires replacement. Here are some reasons why the surge protector may produce abnormal sounds: 1. A power surge occurred that damaged its internal components. 2. If the surge protector has been in service for a number of years, the internal protection components of the unit may have expired. 3. The unit may be faulty.

Why Isn't The Surge Protector Protection Present/Protected LED Lit?

The Protection Present/Protected LED indicates that the internal components of the surge protector are providing surge suppression. If this LED turns off, the unit has an internal problem and requires replacement. Here are the three most common reasons why the LED may not be lit: 1. Your unit has taken a surge hit, causing the internal components, as designed, to absorb the surge and protect the connected equipment. 2. Over time, the internal components of the unit can expire from multiple surge hits. 3. The LED may be faulty.

How To Identify The Problem When A Surge Protector Line OK LED Is Not Lit

Most Tripp Lite 120V surge products have a Line OK LED. The purpose of this indicator light is to notify you that the building wiring is safe for use with the surge protector. In the event that the LED is not lit, please follow these instructions in an attempt to identify the problem: Remove any equipment still connected to the unit. Be sure that the master switch is in the Off position. Unplug the unit from the AC power source. Check to make sure the circuit breaker is reset. Plug the unit into a working 120V AC power source that provides computer-grade power and that is on a different circuit than the one on which the unit was originally used. Toggle the master switch to the On position. If the Line OK LED is not lit after you have followed these steps, the unit requires replacement.
