On May 4, 2016, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) adopted the 2012 editions of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 101 – Life Safety Code (LSC) and NFPA 99 – Health Care Facilities Code (HCFC) by final rule.

  • The final rule was published in the Federal Register and became effective July 5, 2016
  • CMS will begin surveying for compliance with the 2012 LSC and HCFC on November 1, 2016
